So far, dozens of shape memory alloys have been discovered in the world, among which nitinol alloy is the earliest developed and most practical alloy material.

 

Shape memory nitinol bar is a binary alloy composed of nickel and titanium. In addition to its unique shape memory function, it also has a series of excellent properties and is an excellent functional material.

 

1) Shape memory properties: Nitinol alloy is deformed by external force at a certain temperature, and can still maintain the deformed shape after removing the external force, but it can automatically return to the original shape at a higher temperature.

1) Anti-toxicity: The special chemical composition of nickel-titanium shape memory alloy, that is, nickel-titanium and other atomic alloys, contains about 50% nickel, and is known to have carcinogenic and cancer-promoting effects. Usually, titania ACTS acts as a barrier layer on the surface, so Ni-TI alloys have good biocompatibility. TiXOy and TixNiOy in the surface layer can inhibit the release of Ni.

 

2) The so-called superelasticity refers to the phenomenon that the strain of the sample is much greater than the elastic limit strain under the action of external force, and it can automatically recover when unloading. In other words, in the state of the parent phase, stress-induced martensitic transformation occurs due to the applied stress, so the alloy exhibits mechanical properties different from ordinary materials, its elastic limit is much larger than that of ordinary materials, and there is no difference Follow Hooke's Law. In contrast to shape memory properties, superelasticity does not involve heat.

 

3) Good shock absorption performance: the greater the vibration caused by chewing and grinding teeth at night, the greater the damage to the root and periodontal tissue. Through different attenuation experiments, it is found that the vibration amplitude of the stainless steel wire is greater than that of the superelastic nickel-titanium wire, and the initial vibration amplitude of the superelastic nickel-titanium wire is only half of that of the stainless steel wire, which has good vibration and shock absorption characteristics. 4) Sensitivity to temperature changes in the oral cavity: The orthodontic capabilities of stainless steel wires and CoCr alloy orthodontic wires are basically not affected by oral temperature.
